TOMMY KEPA – CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR, EJ SISTERS LIMITED
With over 30 years of experience in construction, civil works, and business, Tommy Kepa is a founding pillar of EJ Sisters Limited. He’s led the company’s growth from a modest roadside stall in Porgera to a nationally recognized contractor.
Coming from the Porgera mine region in Enga Province, Tommy began as a heavy machinery operator—handling front-end loaders, dump trucks, bulldozers, and crushers—for companies including Bougainville Copper Limited and Porgera Gold Mine. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he and his wife Nelly supported their young family by selling second-hand clothes along Porgera’s dusty roadsides. That small venture evolved into a mini kai bar, and eventually into a fleet of vehicles by 1997—first a used Hilux, then three Toyota HiAce buses serving as public transport.
Tommy’s dedication didn’t stop. He juggled night shifts as a crusher foreman at the mine—reporting on machinery performance—while also managing the family’s growing business during the day. After a decade at Porgera Joint Venture, he lost his job in 1999 for, as he jokes, “sleeping during working hours”. Undeterred, he returned armed with trucks and plant gear he had purchased through their newly secured bank loans.
That commitment marked the transformation of EJ Sisters Limited into a full-scale plant-hire and construction firm. Today, the company controls multi-million kina assets and operates across four branches in PNG, delivering key contracts—like a K51 million road rehabilitation project inked in late 2021.
His practical knowledge of machinery, combined with sharp business instincts and relentless determination, has been central to the company’s steady growth.
Under his leadership, EJ Sisters Limited has evolved into a reputable contractor with multi-million-kina projects and assets, delivering critical infrastructure across Papua New Guinea. Tommy is committed to building a company that upholds quality, local participation, and long-term sustainability, ensuring EJ Sisters plays a meaningful role in the country’s development.
As Director, Tommy’s leadership is squarely focused on growth, sustainability, and a sense of purpose. He aims to ensure EJ Sisters plays a critical role in Papua New Guinea’s infrastructure development, affirming the firm’s capability to deliver projects “on specification, on time, and with quality”.
